Beyond the adventure and sporting dimension of the Trophy, participants also take part for social and humanitarian reasons. The Rose des Sables Trophy organisers have chosen the "Children of the Desert" charity, with the aim of providing constructive assistance to the local populations who welcome us onto their land. This charity has perfect local knowledge and excellent contacts with 10 local NGOs, enabling its organisers to evaluate and respond to needs in the best way possible, manage the collection, transportation and distribution of equipment efficiently and provide follow-up so that children can be better supported. One of Children of the Desert's priorities is education, particularly for little girls, who for various reasons are still less widely educated than boys in the most far-flung areas of the Moroccan desert today. Learning to read, write and count is a right which should be accessible to all in the 21st century. Independently of the assistance given for their education, the Children of the Desert charity hopes to bring a little happiness and fun into the children's daily lives, by providing them with hygiene products, toys, clothes and shoes.

The 2009 Roses des Sables Trophy was exceptional - all previous records were broken! The Roses transported no less than 6.5 tonnes of hygiene products, baby equipment and school supplies. Also, the participants signed 14 sponsorship agreements, which will provide for 14 children for a year. Thanks to 2 eminent paediatricians who joined us from Geneva, throughout the Trophy 400 children benefited from medical consultations and treatment appropriate to their illnesses. Merzane school has electricity at last! The equipment required to fit a photovoltaic panel system to this school situated far out in the desert was provided by Conergy. The Children of the Desert team would like to thank all those that helped to make this 2009 humanitarian operation possible.

Ambassador for the charity Meeting the Children of the Desert "I travelled to the south of Morocco in March 2009 to see the charity's work for myself, and in search of new possibilities. Together with Laetitia Chevallier, President of Children of the Desert, I visited several primary schools, took part in a celebration at a secondary school and also met the families of some of the children the charity helps. For me, it was an amazing, but difficult, experience. [...] We also met some of the people who carry out the charity's work on the ground, with the families concerned. [...] This proved again that awareness of the work begun several years ago continues to increase, and this is something for which we can congratulate ourselves. I am delighted and proud to be an ambassador for the charity and will do all I can to ensure that the Children of the Desert continue to grow and bring happiness to the world. "

"I am especially honoured to be able to put my name to the Children of the Desert charity. Firstly, because education is the key to everything, both here and in the desert. From education come autonomy, openness and freedom. Secondly, because I have seen the enthusiasm and devotion of the people who serve the charity. It is fantastic to see. I have every confidence in their rigour, their professionalism and their determination. I hope to be able to travel to Morocco soon to meet the children who are in need of help."
